Horses

Here are some of the horses who we rescued at the 11th hour from an auction where they were destined to be slaughtered for their meat. We've raised funds to have fencing errected on Staro Brdo Horse Sanctuary, run by volunteers - Serbia's first Horse Sanctuary.

Nikolina

Nikolina
Nikolina is Seka's daughter. Both were saved from a drunk owner who abused them and set dogs on them. They had no food or water within reach. Thankfully we were able to secure their release from this animal abuser. They are now patiently awaiting their forever homes.

Seka

Seka
Seka was rescued with her daughter Nikolina from their previous owner who was neglecting them. They were wounded as well as starved, dehydrated & hoof-crippled! It would appear that Seka was tied, so could not run away from a dog attack.

Gliser

Gliser
Gliser was the Yugoslavian Derby winner of 2000!! Sadly his owners no longer had any use for him. He was studded out after he retired from racing but most of his offspring ended up slaughtered and he was being sold by the kg too when we stepped in and got him. My Ridle

My Ridle
My Ridle was used as a brood mare all of her life. After she was no longer useful she was sent for slaughter. We managed to save her from a cruel death at the horse meat auction. She is currently at the sanctuary looking for her forever home.

Lora

Lora
Lora was born in 1995 and was one of the oldest and most used brood mares at the stud farm she came from. Last year her foal was born dead, so this year they didn't breed her, instead they tried to sell her old and tired body for meat - fortunately we were there to secure her a peaceful retirement. She is currently at the sanctuary looking for her forever home.
